More Keys to the Kingdom – by Mark Holder

But the kingdom is more than just a set of rules and a King, it is a relationship.

Understanding the kingdom is critical to a Christian because it should be a part of every aspect of our life. When I embarked on a journey to understand it, the popular definition of it seemed to be: “the rule and reign of God, our King.” God is sovereign, so doesn’t everyone live in His kingdom?

By that definition, one might assume the answer is yes. A similar comparison would be to society as a whole living under the rule of law. All of us are born into and should accept that condition.  But we are not born into God’s kingdom. Jesus says several times in Scripture that we enter it; so the kingdom must be something unrelated to His sovereignty.

The “rule and reign” definition does seem plausible because God can affect the life of anyone He chooses; Pharaoh is just one example (Exodus 7:17). In fact, we can surmise from the curses that the Lord inflicted on him that everyone and everything is under the rule and reign of God.

But the kingdom is more than just a set of rules and a King; it is a relationship. You may have experienced a similar situation with a parent, relative, coach, or mentor. When one is truly connected to someone else and looks to them to lead and guide them, through that relationship, an entity is created.

If living inside that entity, one is influenced by it at all times whether actually in the presence of the person they are connected to or not. The kingdom is similar, but different in that we can always have God’s presence if obedient to Him.

The purpose of this book is to affect the heart of those who need help to find, develop, and strengthen the relationship necessary to enter God’s kingdom and prosper.
